Well, there are many choices, and it all depends on what you are looking for.

The kits from Dynastar, Estes and Madcow Rocketry are some of my favorites.

However, you find some kits from Binder Design ( Excel Jr, Spike, Aspire), PML (Io, Calisto, Exployer) and LOC ( Aura, Weasel, Legacy) great for mid power, and technically could take you into High Power down the road. For example, I fly my Io on F-H motors, and feel very good with that. However, my Rising Star by Dynastar has like 70+ flights on it, using everything from a C11- to a F motor. I am currently replacing my Rising Star with a new one, and building a Madcow Striker, which I really like as a "mid" power flyer. I personally like large diameter, heavy rockets so I don't have to chase them very far. However, I have a few minimum diameter rockets that, well, shall we say, go out of sight.....

It is all about personal taste as far as which rocket you like, that's the beauty of this hobby, you can build and fly what you want, that meets YOUR guide lines.

Enjoy

Thanks everyone, for the mid-power flight options you helped us with a while back.

To make a long story short, I made a kamikaze run to White Elephant today for some birthday/Christmas presents, and Glenn now owns an Estes Executioner. (They only had that and the Big Daddy to choose from for E options.) He chose that because it was the easiest to obtain at this point. However, I am sure that the building suggestions and the other model suggestions will come in handy as he gets the taste for more power.

Thank you for your help!

I have an Executioner myself: one mod I made to mine was to add a baffle where the two tubes join together and then tied my kevlar to the baffle and applied epoxy top and bottom before I installed . I hope that this mod will help the rocket last a little longer, thus creating a parachute compartment. First launch will be at Rolling Thunder. Also repainted, used a bright yellow on nose and fins BT is Metal flake blue. I'm thinkin hummmmmm. Drag Race.

I have passed your comments on to Glenn ; ). All I can say now is that I know he has started it, so I believe he intends to fly it at RT.

And thanks for the build recommendations. Now that Glenn has started the rocket, I recommended that he re-read the thread, since it has been a while.
